Humans keep on getting faster, whether it’s a 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, 10 miles , half marathon or full marathon world record. Through professionalism, science and technology we have seen world records for running drop across all distances, since records began.

Here are all the world records as they stand in 2015:

400 metres world record: Michael Johnson in 43:18 on 26th August 1999 (World Championships, Seville)

800 metres world record: David Rudisha in 1:40:91 on 9th August 2012 (Olympics, London)

1500 metres world record: Hicham El Guerrouj in 3:26 on 14th July 1998 (Golden Gala, Rome)

1 mile world record: Hicham El Guerrouj in 3:43:13 on 7th July 1998 (Golen Gala, Rome)

5,000 metres world record: Kenenisa Bekele in 12:37:35 on 31st May 2004

10,000 metres world record: Kenenisa Bekele in 26:17:53 on 26th August 2005

Half Marathon world record: Zersenay Tadese in 58:23 on 21st March 2010 (Lisbon Half Marathon)

Marathon world record: Dennis Kipruto Kimetto in 2:02:57 on 28th September 2014 (Berlin Marathon)
