After nervously browsing a few standard distance triathlons to take on later this year, I suddenly realised that I hadn’t been swimming for about a month (except for with the kids on Sunday!) So last night as soon as my wife was in from her running club session I headed off for the swimming pool.

Having not swum properly for four or five weeks, I was slightly nervous about getting back in the water – remembering how much it ached when I first got back into the pool last year after a 15 year break! Any fears I had though quickly dissolved when I walked into the pool area and saw all the same people as usual. The three blokes who chat for 15 minutes, swim for 1 minute, chat for 15 mins etc. The older lady who always surprises me at how fast she goes, and the lady obviously training for a tri using leg floats. There was still the usual initial lane confusion – do I go in slow or medium??!

I eventually managed to do 1k plus warm up/down in around 35 minutes, but it was just nice to be back in to pool!
