The running shoes that Mo Farah runs and trains in aren’t what makes him fast, but they definitely don’t slow him down. When you’re trying to shave seconds off a 5k, 10k, half marathon or marathon time, trainers matter.
Being sponsored by Nike, Mo’s go-to running shoe is the Pegasus series – currently on the Nike Air Zoom Pegasus Turbo.
Here’s the man himself talking about the shoe. Interestingly, he has had the back customised to be lower, to stop it aggravating his Achille’s tendon.
Times change and you may have heard of a little thing called the Nike Breaking 2 Project – the Oregon brand’s all out attempt to break the 2 hour barrier for the marathon. For this, Kipchoge wore and entirely new shoe.- the Vaporfly 4%. He didn’t succeed in breaking the 2 hour barrier, but this project did cement the VaporFly as a serious shoe, which has now been adopted by the majority of Nike athletes, including Mo Farah.
At the London Marathon, Mo sported a pair of Nike Zoom VaporFly Elite Flyprint. But these are not yet available to the average Joe.
